Chakra Numbers: How Many Chakras Are There?

You've probably heard of chakras, which are our body's energy centers.

Chakra is a term that originates from the ancient Indian script language of Sanskrit, and it translates to "wheel" or "circle."

7 major chakras run along the back of the spine. They originate at the sacrum (below the lumbar spine) and stretch to the top of your head.

Other chakra systems, such as the 12-chakra system, include 5 additional chakras (also known as transpersonal and subpersonal), which are located outside of the physical body.

Having said that, some people believe that the human body has about 114 unique chakras!

If you know nothing or very little about chakras at this point, it's enough to remember that humans have an incredibly complex energy system.

All chakras have to be balanced, allowing the energy to flow freely across the 72,000 energetic channels of the body called nadis.

Don't worry if all of this seems a little confusing.

What Are The Chakra Numbers?

The majority of teachings identify seven major chakras:

1. Root Chakra (Muladhara) 
2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) 
3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)
4. Heart Chakra (Anahata)
5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)
7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

All of these seven chakra symbols are designed in a circular pattern, which may remind you of the geometric shape known as a mandala.

Mandalas depict complete cosmic harmony and help us to recognize our place in the Universe.

Chakra symbols are, in fact, mandala lotuses.

Each chakra lotus has a distinct number of petals, which represent the vibrational frequency of that chakra:

• There are 4 petals in the Root Chakra symbol.
• There are 6 petals in the Sacral Chakra symbol.
• There are 10 petals in the Solar Plexus Chakra symbol.
• There are 12 petals in the Heart Chakra symbol.
• There are 16 petals in the Throat Chakra symbol.
• There are 2 petals in the Third Eye Chakra symbol.
• There are 1,000 petals in the Crown Chakra symbol.

Other Chakra Systems

All right, it looks like 7-chakra is the most common system.

Does that imply that other chakra systems are not as good as this one?

Well, there are many various chakra systems, but there is no way of telling if one is superior to the other.

There are 3 chakras, which commonly appear in all kinds of chakra systems:

• The first one is the crown chakra, located above the head.
• The second one is the heart chakra, which governs the heart area.
• The third chakra is the sacral chakra. It is located below the navel, and it governs a person's sexuality and emotions.

Let's have a look at some of these chakra systems in more detail.

12 Chakras 

The concept of a 12-chakra system is regarded to be rather new. To this day, there is no uniform understanding of the 12-chakra system, as much as one may enjoy simplicity in learning about the chakras.

The majority of what we know about the 12 chakras comes from the insights of modern therapists and spiritual workers. 

The 12-chakra system includes 7 primary chakras and 5 outer chakras (transpersonal and subpersonal):

The 12-chakra system expresses the idea of our interconnectedness with the rest of the Universe as it allows us to tap into powerful energies that exist outside of the human body.

Let's discuss the meaning behind each of these outer chakras:

★ Earth Star Chakra (Vasundhara) ★

Earth Star Chakra symbolizes the bond and connection of each human being to Mother Earth.

It is a subpersonal chakra located 12 to 18 inches below the soles of your feet (some people may sense it closer, at around 6-7 inches below the feet).

This chakra helps you to connect with Gaia in such a manner that your bad energies are absorbed by her and she returns her good energy to you, allowing you to achieve balance and tranquility.

★ Soul Star Chakra (Sutara) ★

The Soul Star chakra is the 8th chakra and the first energy source located outside the physical body, positioned above the crown chakra.

Sutara, which means "Holy Star" in Sanskrit, is the primary channel by which divine energy travels to the rest of the chakra system. 

It is your soul's archive, and it is connected with the essence of your light body.

114 Chakras

Dr. Amit Ray, a scientist who investigated the importance of chakra systems, extended his understanding of ancient tantric philosophies by reading the centuries-old concepts. He then formed a theory of the 114-chakra system.

Dr. Amit Ray's study revealed that 114 chakras run as energy sources through a human being via the 72,000 energetic channels called nadis.

114 chakras discovered in this study can be divided into:

• 7 primary chakras
• 21 minor chakras
• 86 micro chakras

21 minor chakras spread throughout the entire body, and we can find them in our hands, legs, tongue, knees, elbows, shoulders, eyes, and nose.

Not all chakras are always active. Some of them are open, and some of them are asleep.
